Security guard pay in 2026: what applies

Since 1 April 2026, no full-time security guard in Greece may be paid less than the statutory minimum of €920.00 gross a month (or €41.09 a day). We could not verify a current sectoral collective agreement for guards, so your pay is set by your employment contract and cannot fall below that floor. Full-time work is 40 hours a week. Under the Labour Code, night work (22:00–06:00) carries a 25% premium and work on Sundays and public holidays a 75% premium.

What is the minimum wage for a security guard in Greece in 2026?

From 1 April 2026, €920.00 gross a month for salaried staff and €41.09 a day for daily-wage workers, full-time. It is the legal floor for everyone, guards included.

The amounts were set by Joint Ministerial Decision 8934/27.3.2026 (ΦΕΚ Β΄ 1759/27.03.2026) and apply from 1 April 2026:

  • Salaried staff: €920.00 gross a month, full-time.
  • Daily-wage workers: €41.09 gross a day, full-time.

The minimum wage is a floor, not the pay for the job. Your pay can be higher; it cannot be lower.

Is there a collective agreement for security guard pay in Greece?

We could not verify a current (2025–2026) sectoral collective agreement for guards. Your pay is set by your employment contract and cannot be below the statutory minimum.

We found no sectoral agreement in force that we could document from an official source, so we do not publish pay scales. What certainly applies is the statutory minimum.

In practice: before you sign, make sure your employment contract states the gross pay, the hours and whether any collective agreement applies. If the employer mentions one, ask for its number and date.

How many hours a week is full-time work for a security guard?

40 hours a week. The Labour Code sets this for every sector; a collective agreement may set fewer.

Article 189 §1 of the Labour Code sets full-time work at 40 hours a week in every sector. The €920.00 minimum corresponds to full-time work.

Guarding often runs around the clock, so your rota may include nights, Sundays and public holidays. Those hours carry their own premiums — see below.

What is the night-shift premium for security guards in Greece?

25% for every hour worked between 22:00 and 06:00, under article 150 of the Labour Code.

Article 150 of the Labour Code (night work allowance) provides:

  • §1: work between 22:00 and 06:00 is paid with a 25% premium, whether night work is permanent or occasional.
  • §2: people who work only at night because of the nature of the job get no separate premium if their pay is already at least 25% above the minimums; if the margin is smaller, they receive the difference.
  • §3: the premium is calculated on the mandatory minimum wages and daily wages, and is reduced pro rata for part-time work.

How much is a guard paid for working on a Sunday or public holiday?

With a 75% premium, under article 219 of the Labour Code, for work on Sundays and the public holidays it lists.

Article 219 §1 of the Labour Code grants a 75% premium to those who work on Sundays and public holidays, as provided by joint decision 8900/1946. The holidays listed in §2 are:

  • 25 March, Easter Monday, 1 May, 15 August, 28 October;
  • 25 and 26 December, 1 January and 6 January (Epiphany).

What should I ask an employer about pay and shifts before I sign?

The gross pay and hours, how nights, Sundays and holidays are paid, how hours beyond the schedule are paid, and how the rota is set.

  1. What is the gross pay, and for how many hours a week?
  2. Does a collective agreement apply? Which one?
  3. How do night hours (22:00–06:00) show on the payslip?
  4. How are Sundays and public holidays paid?
  5. How are hours beyond the agreed schedule paid?
  6. How far ahead is the rota published, and how is a shift changed?
